PSY435H1 Chapter Notes - Chapter N/A: Fractal, Proprioception, Perceptual Psychology
Document Summary
The skill of ecological perception summary: knowledge gained through perceptual psychology can contribute to ecological awareness. This manifests as empathy and identity with family, friend, community, and the non-human world: our sensory systems have evolved to differ between in here and out there. It is allowing one"s boundaries to be permeable and flexible. Can work in reverse by familiarization or forward by making old aspects stand out. Endogenous attention can reinforce habitual judgement, dislike, and denial. It requires noticing what one notices, and choosing to honour that which appeals and provokes, and is felt within one"s body and soul. We can use this to build a new habit: exogenous the way in which our gaze is drawn to novelty or change in a field. Most susceptible to psychic numbing; when numb, we notice as little as possible. Perceiving the relations: our culture, as is, is materialistic.
