Response: Reading of the Genesis
The Genesis is a very interesting book to apprehend. Even the scripture it's self is quite
unique. The Genesis talks about allot of things that are considered important aspects throughout
the book. For example in the beginning the Genesis talks about how God created the universe in
seven days and on the seventh day God rested after he ended his work. Something that becomes
mind bottling is that why would God rest on the seventh day? After all he is the almighty God,
what reason would he have to do such a thing. Was there a purpose to why rested? Also if God
could create man from a single speck of dust then why was Eve created from the rib of Adam?
As the reading progresses further, there are several other aspects that are rather interesting, such
as the death of Abel. It is only human nature to feel an emotion of jealousy towards another.
Thus this emotion led to a murder committed by Cain who was the brother of Abel. This act was
not just a murder, but it was the first death of a human being on the face of the earth along with
the very first evil act and sin committed by another human being. The Genesis also mentions life
spans of almost every person/character mentioned in the book. It was interesting to see that
people back then had such long life spans. Almost everyone lived over three-hundred years or so,
which allowed them to do so many things with their lives and experiences a lot more. The
average life span of a human being now a day is approximately 60-80 years maximum. Another
important aspect in the Genesis is the sacrifice of Issac that Abraham had to offer in the form of
animal salutation. This is important because in the Islamic religion animal sacrifice plays an
important role, primarily because of what had happened on the day when Abraham was to offer
his son by sacrificing him to god and instead he ended up slaughtering a sheep. Therefore in
Islamic religion every year Muslims all around the world sacrifice an animal such as sheep, cow,
lamb, goat in honor of this event in time. As time progresses throughout the Genesis man
decided to build a tower that would lead them to heaven. It’s fascinating to see how the human
mind processed and the level of thinking humans were capable of. Lastly when Joesph was
thrown into the well by his hated brothers, he was found by Judah. Who sold him to a wealthy
man, which eventually lead him to become in charge of rations during the famine that streaked
all over the world. What made this aspect interesting was that when Joseph’s brother who had
once attempted to kill him came to get food they didn't recognize him, and Joseph didn't reveal
his identity till the very end. It was interesting to see how one can help others through a time of
desperation even knowing the real truth. It takes a lot of character and good morals to do so.
