Document Summary

Overview of book this chapter is from: group problem solving using system thinks method to convert companies into learning organizations. Chapter 5 summary: system thinking: seeing the whole picture. Almost nothing is influenced in just one direction. Structure that underlie complex situations must be considered. ie: linear relationships not considering system relations. Ussr arms threat to americans need to build up us arms. Us arms threat to soviets need to build up ussr arms. These two linear relationships prove to ignore the system relationship of the arms race. After considering the entire system, the two linear relationships are pushing each other to continue to build arms bases. By breaking the system, the linear concerns are no longer valid. Today"s world is very complex: humankind has the capacity to create more information then anyone can absorb and use. Conventional forecasting, planning, and analysis methods are not equipped to deal with dynamic complexity.
