Family complexity, the family safety net, and public policy notes. 21st century families have become more complex: different from the idealized nuclear type family. Many children have more adult influences in their lives: and grandparents are also living longer overlapping generations. Step parents and half siblings are also much more common: may or may not live in the same house. Marriage also matters if a parent divorces a step parent, many believe the: people do not approve of (cid:498)doubling up(cid:499, children usually stay with their mother(cid:495)s at the end of a relationship. There do tend to be some rules in the complexity of family. The role of the safety net can be debated within the family: men who live with a women and her children are expected to help support the household married. Some families may not have a safety net to the their ses.
