Document Summary
Life expectancy: the number of years that the average person can expect to live. Aging tends to be equated with and fined in terms of, ill health. Health tends to be a major problem in later life, and older adults account for much of the illness, disability and healthcare use in any society. There are more older adults in the population now because of decreasing fertility average number of children born per women is lower now (1. 67) Fertility was the major predictor of population aging until the population reached a life expectancy at birth of 70 y/o. The social construction of old how how society views older adults and the opportunities and constraints that are available to them influences how older adults experience life. Ageism is quite prominent in how young people see the older adults. This can also be because old age is associated with declining health and mental health.
