Observes ethnic and multicultural attitudes from a social-psychological perspective
Individuals and their attitudes are important elements in multicultural societies for four reasons:
1. Individuals are the ones who act and react to other persons or groups
2. There are limits to the social changes that can be brought about by legal or institutional means,
limits that reside in psychological phenomena
3. Individual attitudes provide a necessary suppor t base for multicultural policies and programs
4. With a knowledge of individual attitudes it becomes possible to track over time, and even to
predict relative degrees of harmony and conf lict in society
