SPANISH SPA100Y1 NOTES Chapter 5 (5.3) STEM CHANGING VERBS (diphthong: O UE) In Spanish, there are verbs called diphthong verbs. They are regular verbs that have a vowel change in order to make their pronunciation easier. The vowel change occurs in the last vowel (before the ending). There are two types of stem changing verbs: E to IE, and O to UE. Chapter four focuses on E to IE and chapter five focuses on O to UE (seebelow). The vowel change, from Oto UE, only occurs if the verb is being conjugated at the 1 , 2 and 3 person singular (yo, tu, l, ella, usted) as well as the 3 person plural (ellos, ellas, ustedes). The verb remains unchanged at the 1 and 2 person plural (nosotros(as), vosotros(as)). CONTAR (to count) VOLV
