Chapter 7: Asking people about themselves – Survey Research  Survey research uses questionnaires and interviews to ask people information about  themselves.  Why conduct surveys?  ­ Provides us with a method to ask other about themselves (helps us to understand  issues)  ­ Information for making public policy decisions  ­ A way to study the relationship between two variables and how attitudes and  behaviours change over time.  ­ Compliments experimental research (surveys would provide some sort of basis for  the start of experimental research)  ­ A research set is responding to all the questions in a particular perspective without  directly giving the answer to the question.                      ­ Social desirability response is problematic for some research since  some people will answer questions in a way that is “socially acceptable” or will  look better on them.  Constructing questions to ask:  Defining the Research  ­ Need to keep in mind the objectivit
