Document Summary

Sensation: process by which our sensory receptors & nervous system receive & represent stimulus energy from our environment. Perception: process of organizing & interpreting sensory info, allowing us to recognize meaningful events & objects: sensation perception, sensation & perception blend into one continuous process. Bottom-up processing: analysis that begins with the sensory receptors & works up to the brain"s integration of sensory info: taking sensory info & then assembling & integrating it, associated with sensation, detects lines, edges & angles. All of our senses: receive sensory stimulation, transform that stimulation into neural impulses, deliver that neural info to the brain. Transduction: conversion of energy into another form that our brain can use: important for sensation. Psychophysics: studies the relationship between the physical energy we can detect & its effect on our psychological experiences. Absolute threshold: the minimum stimulus energy needed to detect a particular stimulus 50% of the time.
