Individuals who lose their hearing lose it gradually the lowest level of sounds that they can detect at any given frequency gradually rises (i. e. a shift in hearing threshold develops) Shift that reverses itself w/in 16 hours: can occur after 10min of 100 decibels, or 90 minutes of 90 decibels (nightclubs, concerts, factories) If a threshold shift repeatedly is allowed to last into the next workday (more than 16h) it may become permanent. * don"t understand/care about this point : noise affects performance after it ends.
