PSYC 375 Chapter 4: PSYC 375 Notes - Ch. 4 PDF
Document Summary
4: social cognition: social cognition: the processes of perception & judgement with which we make sense of our social worlds. The cognitive processes that result from a social event, & that determine our behavioural response. What we think about our relationships determine how we feel & act. Our perceptions are ego-centric, & therefore not necessarily accurate . People can have the same experience, but interpret very different things. Ex. people who are primed to irting are more likely to see the photo of the face, whereas people primed to deception see the word liar. With someone equally (matched) or more attractive (over-bene tted) = people are more committed. Rst impressions linger, whether they are right or wrong. We start judging people from the moment we meet them based on unconscious stereotypes that provide us with preconceptions of what people are like. Most often these judgments are incorrect, but they are hard to avoid.
