Working memory (slightly different, but affectively the same) A part of memory and a necessity. Incorporate new experiments within the context of older ones. This requires that we remember past mistakes accurately. As with attention, memory is a limited capacity. Memory storage is effortful - must be selective. Ex: phone number - got about 30 seconds to commit that to long term memory. Automatic (unconscious) memory that remains very brie y at the sensory level. If attended to the sensory information is held in short-term storage (about 30 seconds) Transfer to longer-term storage requires rehearsal (e. g. , phone number) - trace is vulnerable (of forgetting or being incomplete) Available for retrieval for an undetermined amount of time after storage 0 depends on different factors. Can last minutes, hours, days, years, a lifetime. Limited short term memory (around 7 items, about the length of a phone number) Forgetting at literally every stage (important, cannot possibly hold in every piece of information)
