Bands: a term used by anthropologists to refer to units of social organization. Todays worlds are divided into rich and poor. No humans live exclusively by hunting and gathering. Sedentary: a mode of livelihood characterized by permanent or semi-permanent settlements. Some small scale tribal cultures still live a nomadic life. Human beings chose to abandon a nomadic, foraging life. Progress: the idea that human history is the story of a steady advance from a life dependent on the whims of nature to a life in control and domination over natural forces. Culture change: the changes in meaning that a people ascribe to experience and changes in their way of life. People had few material things because they hindered their ability to travel. Only people with spiritual powers - would be used to cure illness or cause illness/death. Social differences were based on age and gender.
