Anthro 2229 reading march 20th moche sex pots: Ceramics produced by the south american moche (a. d. 150-800) depict a wide variety of sex acts but rarely depict vaginal penetration. Anal and oral sex seen as reproductive. Argues that moche ceramics with their emphasis on the movement of uids between bodies do in fact portray a reproductive process. The moche of the north coast of peru made ceramics depicting lots of sex. Not just sex though; people, animals, gods hunting and going to war, making music, visiting rulers, burying the dead, curing the sick etc. 80,000 to 100,000 of these moche vessels recovered and sent to museums. Masturbation and fellatio frequently represented as well. The anal scenes typically depict similar gures that look the same and at same status.
