Dioecious means that male flowers are on one plant and female flowers are on another plant: male and female gametes are housed in 2 different individuals, but it cannot be both at the same time. Monoecious means that male and female flowers are found in a single plant: they have male and female reproductive parts, also act as males and females simultaneously (simultaneous hermaphrodites) Sequential monoecy: born one gender and then they switch once they reach a certain threshold of body size: threshold body size: after when they switch genders, ex. In clownfish, they are born male and then they switch to become female. Simultaneous monoecy: male and female organs are present throughout the course of the organism"s life.
