Models of disability help to define impairment and provide a basis to devise strategies to meet the needs of pwd. These models are often incomplete, however they help to gain an understanding of issues that affect pwd. Models reveal how society provides/limits access to services, work, goods, and political power for pwd. They are influenced by two philosophies: seeing disabled people as being dependent upon society. Seeing disabled people as customers of what society has to offer.
