Explain how that has changed in recent years. The relationship has change as rising temperatures and drought have stressed the trees leaving them unable to attack invaders. Also the flying season used to be 2 weeks but the drought has allowed them to fly from tree to tree for months: describe how female beetles have evolved to survive the natural defenses that the trees produce. If the beetles clear trees in the alberta mountains, the unshaded snow will melt faster causing earlier peaks of the rivers which will affect salmon and people indirectly: explain what is meant by tipping an ecosystem. Tipping an ecosystem refers to when an ecosystem is already stressed by some factor like drought, adding stressors such as the pine beetle may tip the ecosystem to a point where recovery is not possible.
