Chapter 1 NotesThe Late Ming Spence late 16th century Ming dynasty was at its greatest glory late Ming Chinas state and economy began to fall apart falling tax revenues led to army not being paid on time troops began deserting borders which left room for hostile tribes to come in Manchus Jurchen tribesmen from across Chinas northern frontiers brought order to the country success came from forming a system of military and administrative units took over China became the Qing dynasty citizens were not adequately taxed for commerce and agriculture although it was doing well on its own it became a permanent flaw of the dynasty as population rises in order to control citizens corruption becomes a factor art and literature was acceptable fake copies of artwork would be made only males would be educated elite females may have a chance
