Skin: skin is cutaneous membrane and covers the external surface of the body, the largest body organ in weight, skin is a protective covering of the body. Keratinized squamous epithelium: keratinocytes (90%)- (tough, carry melanin granules) arranged in 4-5 layers that produces keratin. Keratin is a tough fibrous intercellular protein that helps protect the skin from and other tissues from abrasions , heat, microbes and chemicals. Has a strong color of yellow red and brown pigment that helps with skin colour. Primarily where melanin is produced it gives the skin uv protection melanin sits the keratin to protect it ( 1 melanin can. 30 keratin) but are open to uv damage themselves. Melanin also has a strong color: merkel cells (2%) (sensory) used for tactical , feeling , touching located in the deepest layer of the epidermal, langerhans cell (macrophages) comes from red marrow. Help with the immune response to the it is easily damaged by uv light.
