Health Sciences 4202A/B Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Psychodrama, Transtheoretical Model
Document Summary
The transtheoretical model (ttm) focuses on explaining behavior change, whereas many other models just focus on the behavior. It is unique in that it specifies a time dimension in behavior change. It"s proposes that people move through various stages while making a behavior change and that the whole process can take anywhere from 6 months to 5 years. Due to its emphasis on stages, the model is also known as the stages of change (soc) model. In the late 1970s, james prochaska undertook to review the various theories of psychotherapy, in this process he laid the foundation for the transtheoretical model. He reviewed 18 theories of psychotherapy and although they were quite different from each other, he saw that they share certain commonalities and how they look at the process of change. The ttm at present enjoys the status of being the most popular model.
