General theories of poliical decision-making are as follows: raional actor models. Decisions are made by inding the nature of the problem. An objecive or goal is selected on the basis of an ordering of individual preferences. Available means of achieving this objecive are evaluated in terms of their efeciveness, reliability, costs and so on. Decision is made through the selecion of the means most likely to secure the desired end: incremental models. Decisions tend to be made on the basis of inadequate informaion and low levels of understanding. Discourages decision-makers from pursing bold and innovaive courses of acion: bureaucraic organizaion models. Try to get inside the black box by highlighing the degree to which process inluences product: belief system models. Place an emphasis on the role of beliefs and ideology that highlight the degree to which behaviour is structured by percepion. Deep core beliefs (fundamental moral or philosophical principles)
