Feb 17 - libiyan day of rage - citizens demanded respect for human rights and democratic rights. Met with violent crackdowns by libyian authorities. Within next few weeks, libyian started armed rebellion - gained control of several towns and created transitional national council. Libyan government moreover attempted to restrict the broadcasting of the situation in the country by cutting off landlines and internet access and by restricting media coverage. Same day - arab league suspended libya from organization. Basically the entire international community called them out. The situation in libya combined with the calls for action from various regional organizations led the. Security council to unanimously adopt resolution 1970 on 26 february. Gaddafi - threatened citizens in area who did not comply with his orders. Later that day, unsc announced resolution 1973. Approved all necessary measures, including military force, to protect citizens.
