Document Summary
Most conlicts are not solved through conlict; the majority of countries look to solve problems long term. They play a key role in solving internaional dilemmas and achieving mutual cooperaion. They include: intergovernmental organizaions (igo"s), such as the un, nongovernmental organizaions (ngo"s), such as doctors without boarders (msf, 400 independent igo"s, 10"s of thousands of ngo"s, huge increase in numbers since 1950. The increase in organizaions around the world, and the weaving together of people across naional boundaries through specialized groups relects world interdependence. Some igo"s are global, regional, or just bilateral. Some have broad goals, others speciic funcional objecives. Regional groups tend to be more successful then global ones, the same is true for speciic goals versus more broad ones. The european union is among the most important regional igos. Global igos usually have funcional purposes involving coordinaing the acions of some set of states.
