The protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism! Work as an end in itself, or as a calling ! We shall nevertheless provisionally use the expression spirit of capitalism" for that attitude which, in the pursuit of a calling strives systematically for pro t for its own sake ! Such spirit is not limited to western culture if one considers it as the attitude of individuals! Such individuals - heroic entrepreneurs - could not by themselves establish a new economic order (capitalism)! When people transitioned into this lifestyle of modernity they"re great bene ts as well as horrible repercussions for the people who lived off the land. Work was seen as way of entering heaven (protestantism) where leisure and relaxing are seen as ways of entering hell. Working to be spiritual part of heaven - weber! Illustrates the livelihood of the folk. (some people are working others are relaxing)!
