Document Summary
Behaviour is determined by nature and nurture. Genotype is the specific make up of an individual. Phenotype is the observable characteristics produced by genetic endowment: genotypes cannot change but phenotypes can. Chromosome is a tightly coiled molecule of deoxyribonucleic acid (dna) Genes are the hereditary blueprints carried by dna. Alleles are alternative forms of a gene that produce different characteristics. Recessive genes will not show up unless the gene from the other partner is also recessive. Polygenic transmission is when a number of gene pair to create a single phenotypic trait. Recombinant dna procedures is where researchers use specific enzymes to cut long threadlike molecules of genetic dna into pieces, and then combine them with dna from another organism, and then insert the new strands into a host organism. Knockout procedure is when genes are altered in a way that prevents it from carrying out its function.
