Developmental: physical, social and psychological development across the life span. Experimental: focuses on learning, sensory systems, perception, motivation to understand why we behave a certain way. Industrial- organizational: examines behaviour in the workplace, ex: leadership, teamwork, work motivation & job satisfaction. Personality: identify core personality traits/how they influence behaviour. Social: examines thoughts, feelings, & behaviour pertaining to the social aspect of the world, ex: how people influence each other/behave in groups. Basic research describe how people behave & and identify the factors that influence them. (lab or real world settings) Applied research uses principles discovered through basic research to solve practical problems. Levels of analysis: biological brain processes, genetic influence, psychological thoughts, feelings & motivations, environmental past/current physical & social environments. Biological factors: neural, hormonal, genes, chemical imbalance.
