Document Summary
Synesthesia: the production of a sense relating to another one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body. Cross wiring so that activity in one part of the brain evokes a response in another part. Transduction: the language of nerve impulses characteristics of nerve impulses are converted into nerve impulses. Binding problem how do we bind all of our perceptions into one complete whole while keeping sensory elements separate. Sensation: stimulus detection process by which our sense organs respond/translate into nerve impulses. Perception: (cid:373)aki(cid:374)g (cid:862)se(cid:374)se(cid:863) of (cid:449)hat ou(cid:396) se(cid:374)ses tell us organizing stimulus input & giving it meaning. We can confuse similar perceptions but tell them apart by concept; what precedes & follows them. Ex: what follows the letter a or the number 12. Five senses: vision, audition (hearing, touch, gustation (taste, olfaction (smell) Psychophysics: studies relations between the physical characteristics of stimuli & sensory capabilities.
