Document Summary
Descriptive statistics: summarize and describe the characteristics of a set of scores. Frequency distribution: shows how many participants received each score: histogram: graph of frequency distribution. Measures of central tendency: describe a distribution in terms of a single statistic that is. Typical of the sample: mean= arithmetic average of a set of scores. Adding up all the scores and dividing by the number of scores: median= point that divides the distribution in half when the individual scores are arranged in order from lowest to highest. Half of scores lie above median, and half below it: mode= most frequently occurring score in a distribution. Range: difference between the highest and lowest score in a distribution. Measures of variability: provides information about the spread of scores in a distribution. Variance: average of the squared deviation scores about the mean. Normal curve: symmetrical bell shaped curve that represents a theoretical distribution of scores in the population.
