Psychology is often described as the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes. Without research our understanding would be limited. A scientific approach requires research of human behaviour at all levels (biological, internal, observable behaviours) Translational research is a scientific approach that focuses on communication between basic science and applied clinical research. The goal of most research is to publish the results so that other investigators can use the data to create new hypotheses and further our understanding of abnormal behaviour. One of the core principles in the scientifics study of abnormal behaviour is that the research must be done in an ethical manner in accord with principles. Includes respect for persons capable of making decisions for themselves: second is the principle of beneficence protect patients from harm and maximize possible benefits, third is justice fairness in distribution and access.
