Psychology 2062A/B Chapter Notes - Chapter 10: Learning Management System, Cooperative Learning, Homeless Shelter
Document Summary
Learning sciences: an interdisciplinary science of learning based on research in psychology, education, computer science, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, and other fields that study learning. The basic assumptions of learning sciences are: experts have deep conceptual knowledge. Experts have deep conceptual understanding that allows them to put their knowledge into action. Its not simply knowing a bunch of facts: learning comes from the learner. Students must actively participate in their own personal construction of knowledge: schools must create effective learning environments. Students need to be active in constructing their own deep understandings so they can reason about real-world problems and transfer their learning to their lives beyond school: prior knowledge is key. Learning needs to relate to what the students already know. If not, then they will learn what is needed to pass the test but their knowledge and beliefs about the world will not change: reflection is necessary to develop deep conceptual knowledge.
