Speech production begins in lungs: ***lungs give airstream for vocalization. Airstream flows up trachea via glottis (voice box) Recall: phonation (buzzing sensation in throat when saying ahh) Recall: vibrating objects make a fundamental frequency (perceived as pitch + overtones) Vibrating vocal folds (similarly) make fundamental frequency + overtones: resulting complex sound wave is the phonation that acts as raw material for speech production.
