Created psychodynamic behaviour theory = major effort to integrate some of the fundamental ideas of freudian psychodynamic theory w/ concepts, language and methods of experimental research on behaviour and learning. Freud saw conflict and anxiety as fundamental for understanding personality. These inhibitory fearful responses further prevent drive reduction, so that the blocked drives continue to built up to higher level. Person is trapped in an unbearable neurotic conflict b/w frustrated drives and fear connected w/ approach responses relevant to their release: high drive state connected with misery and interferes w/ clear thinking.
