Document Summary
10 prosocial behaviour: prosocial behaviour: any act performed with the goal of benefiting another person. It would make more sense if the selfish gene was passed on. Evolutionary psychology: kin selection: the idea that behaviour that helps a genetic relative is favoured by natural selection. We can assure our genes will be passed along not only if we have children but also if our relatives have children. In modern day, people report that they would be more likely to save their blood relative in a life or death situation and be more likely to pass on their inheritance to family members. Throughout history it would not be beneficial to us if we were all selfish and lived by ourselves. It is adaptive for one to learn the social norms of society, and altruism is one of those norms. Social exchange: the costs and rewards of helping: we want to maximize our rewards and minimize our costs.
