Obedience: when people do as they are told by a powerful or authoritative gure. Conformity: social in uence involving a change in belief or behaviour to t in with a group. Rats exposed to toxic food didn"t eat it if alone but if saw other rats eat it, they would. Individualistic cultures believe their behaviour isn"t in uenced by others. Higher rate in collectivist cultures - promotes harmony. Higher the conformity - higher the level of pathogens (threat of infection > higher conformity) Men are less easily in uenced than women women taught to be more agreeable. Women conform on masculine items & men conform on feminine items.
