Field research is based on naturalism, which is also used to study other phenomena: naturalism =involves observing ordinary events in natural settings, the goal is to examine social meanings and grasp multiple perspectives in natural social settings. Field sites usually have different levels or areas, and entry is an issue for each. It is best to avoid being locked into specifics by gatekeepers: gatekeeper =someone with the formal or informal authority to control access to a site ex. If the group that the researcher is studying is involved in illegal acts, to what extent should the researcher participate: appearing interested. Observing and collecting data: watching and listening, observing, good field researchers are intrigued about details that reveal "what is going on here" through careful listening and watching, a field researches takes not of physical appearance and behaviour. In general, a researcher lets members know a short period ahead of time.
