The story of brenda is one of the most interesting (and tragic) case studies in the nature/ nuture debate. In this case, a boy who, because of a circumcision accident, had his penis removed shortly after birth and was raised until his teen years as a girl. While the parents attempted to raise the boy as a girl and named the child brenda. Yet, the boy struggled with this gender identity. When brenda learned her true identity, she quit being a girl and became a man, named david. After years of struggling though, sadly, david killed himself at the age of 38. Photo of david, who was raised until his teenage years as a female. The case suggests that innate differences constrain what parental care, teaching and other socialization experiences can affect.
