2011 stepfamilies = 1 in 8 couple families with kids. Stepfamily: kids are related to one parent but not the other. Simple stepfamily: family in which all kids are the biological or adopted kids of only one of the spouses/ partners in the couple: proporion of this is declining. Factors contribuing to the shit to remarriage ater divorce: life expectancy increased less likelihood of widowing, change in law, less sigma. Parents in stepfamilies: older, more likely to be in common-law, more likely to idenify inances as main source of stress. Stages of remarriage: entering new relaionship, must have emoional divorce from previous relaionship, planning new marriage and family, maintain outside relaionships, forming the remarriage family, renegoiaing boundaries. Former child-in-law has custody and their child (the dad) has litle contact. Quebec has best legislaion keeping grandparents in contact. Paeniied child: child who accepts a high degree of parent"s responsibiliies of care and nurturing.
