According to sykes (1958), these norms and values include the following: don"t interfere with inmates" interests for example, never betray another inmate to authorities. inmates, don"t lose your head, and refrain from emotional displays (e. g. , arguing) with other, don"t exploit other inmates, be tough and don"t lose your dignity, don"t be a sucker, don"t make a fool of yourself or support guards or prison administrators over the interests of the inmates.
