Getty museum (2011) apollo from pompeii: investigating an ancient bronze. Apollo in the pose of an archer, one of the first large scale bronzes to be excavated at. Found in fragments in 1817 and 1818. Sculpture originally housed in the colonnaded courtyard of the temple of apollo. Statue made using the lost wax technique. Large hole in the lower back, covered by sculpted drapery: only became apparent through x-ray, intentionally created, purpose uncertain. Reconstruction was complete by 1825: assembled around internal iron armature in left leg, fragments joined using iron straps secured with brass screws and solder. Getty museum (2012) aphrodite and the gods of love. Typically associated with love, beauty, and sex but much more complex. Could be manipulative an destructive with love when with eros. Aphrodite was connected with maritime affairs, civic harmony, and welfare. Siotto et al. (2015) a multidisciplinary approach for the study and the virtual reconstruction of the ancient polychromy of roman sarcophagi.
