BI110 Chapter Notes - Chapter 19: Invagination, Endocytosis, Pinocytosis
Document Summary
Exocytosis - moving materials out of the cell. Examples of things that get moved: hormones, digestive enzymes, neurotransmitters, extracellular matrix components and other molecules. Three steps to secretion: materials are targeted to vesicles, the vesicles move to the proper location, signals trigger the release of materials from the vesicle. Can be loaded into the vesicle from the cytoplasm. Loaded with proteins and ribosomes from the rough er and golgi, and the vesicle will eventually end up secreting these materials into the bloodstream. Move by using motor proteins that use the cytoskeleton to move the vesicle. It is moved to the right spot on the cell membrane, this is important because illness can occur if you the materials are secreted to the wrong area. Some cells don"t need a signal, they just constantly move materials in and out at will. Some cells will dock the vesicle on the plasma membrane, waiting for the signal it needs to rereleased.
