Document Summary

Cell cycle control system the system that controls which phase a cell is in. Checkpoints times at which the cycle can be stopped or pushed forward. Maturation-promoting factor was the first complex identified that controls cell cycle. Many pf the proteins involves in cell cycle regulation are cyclin-dependent kinases (cdks). A cyclin is a protein whose concentration in the cell varies cyclically. Cdks are kinases whose activities are controlled by forming complexes with cyclins. Cyclin-cdk complexes are formed from a protein kinase subunit and a cyclin subunit. When the two associate, they form the holoenzyme. The kinase is completely inactive without its cyclin partner. Growth factors molecules that stimulate cell division. Density-dependent inhibition when cells stop dividing because they are too crowded. Anchorage dependence cells divide only if attached to a surface (body tissues) Benign tumors abnormal tissue growths that do not spread to other parts of body.
