Document Summary

29. 2: the lead; acquiring co2 while avoiding desiccation. Three major types of organs in a vascular plant; leaves, stems, and reproductive organs which all together form the shoot system. Roots which are generally hidden from the ground make up the fourth major organ. A leaf is a principal site of photosynthesis in vascular plants. Veins connects the leaf to the rest of the plant. In a leaf there are three major tissue; epidermis, mesophyll, and veins. The epidermi s lines the leaf"s upper and lower surfaces. Loosely packed photosynthetic cells make up the mesophyll. Water is the resource that most often limits the plants ability to grow and function. The rate of co2 uptake depends in large part on the degree to which leaves can expose their photosynthetic cells to the surrounding air. Mesophyll cells obtain the co2 that they need for photosynthesis directly from the the air spaces surrounding them.
