Predicting ob: regular behaviour allows us to predict future occurrences and so we can anticipate decisions and actions, provides a science for predictions. Explaining ob: helps us explain why events occur, prediction is very different than explanation, explanation is more difficult. Hr movement and critique of bureaucracy: advocated mgmt. styles that were more participative and oriented towards employee needs. Contemporary management contingency approach: recognizes that there is no one best way to manage, and that an appropriate mgmt. style depends on the demands of the situation.
