Innovate or perish: the strategic role of change: many orgs are adapting to change through horizontal structures and self-directed teams. Elements for successful change: org change is different from org innovation. Innovation is new to the industry/market whereas change is just new behavior in the org: elements of successful change: Ideas and needs can happen in the reverse order too needs come before ideas. In a vertical re-org need to focus more on empowering employees and collaboration: employees may react with fear or anger to massive changes. Interdepartmental activities: employees from different departments come together to discuss problems and come up with solutions also how to increase the communication between each other. Implementation is the most important part of change and the most difficult. Leaders help them understand the impact and positive outcomes: commitment, employees perceive change as positive change is implemented.
