A goal is a target or objective that people strive to attain. Three types of goals that athletes can set; performance, process, and outcome goals. Performance goals focus on improving and attaining personal performance standards. Process goals focus on specific behaviours that an athletes must engage in throughout performance. Outcome goals focus on social comparison and competition results. Goal setting is the practice of establishing desirable objectives for one"s actions. Research suggests incorporating all three types of goals when setting a performance. Team goal setting is also an effective tool for building team cohesion. Goals influence athletes performance by enhancing their self-confidence and satisfaction. Suggested before that only hard goals influence performance. However it is suggested that moderately difficult goals result in the best performance.
