KP222 Chapter Notes - Chapter 19: Distal Convoluted Tubule, Ascending Limb Of Loop Of Henle, Renal Medulla
Document Summary
What enters and what is produced by the body must equal what is used or eliminated from the body in order to maintain homeostasis. Kidneys play a key role in regulating fluid and electrolyte balance. Kidneys exert control over plasma by regulating its solute and water concentration. Must be maintained within normal limits, volume is almost all a result of the water content. Solute can affect it indirectly by dragging water where there is greater osmolarity. Plasma has effect on homeostasis as it affects map. Affected by both the movement of solutes between compartments of the body and in/out of plasma. Plasma can gain or lose materials through the exchange with cells and extracellular connective tissue. There are three ways in which the plasma can gain or lose materials: exchange with lumen of gastrointestinal tract, exchange with lumen of renal tubules, lose materials through sweating, hemorrhaging, or respiration.
