Document Summary

Sensation process through which the senses detect visual, auditory, & other sensory stimuli & transmit them to brain. Perception process by which sensory information actively organised & interpreted by brain. Bottom-up processing perception that proceeds by transducing environmental stimuli into neural impulses that move successively into more complex brain regions related to sensations. Example: looking at face of bff neural impulse travels to brain to visual regions. Top-down processing perception processes led by cognitive processes, such as memory or expectations- related to perception. Example: people automatically recognize word than colour of word pink. Both sensation & perception are critical for our interpretation & interaction with our environment. Convert a specific form of environmental stimuli neural impulses. Sensory transduction: process of converting a specific form of sensory data neural impulse. How much stimulus must be out there for us to respond threshold. Absolute threshold difference b/w detecting something from nothing. Smallest amount of stimulus that one can detect.
