PS264 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Clitoris, Masters And Johnson, Human Sexual Activity
Document Summary
Long ago, people thought women were nonorgasmic/didn"t enjoy sex/have sexual feelings. Human sexual behaviour occurs in two major stages: nontactile stage, tactile stage. *usually begins with touching or holding hands, proceeds to pettings, and gradually becomes more intimate- eventually the aim is to have intercourse, with orgasm. Masters & johnson-focused their research on the tactile phase of sexual behaviour- human sexual behaviour can be described as a sensory event. Sex is rewarding because it provides a pleasurable sensory experience. *there is remarkable similarity between the female and the male sexual response. To describe the patterning of physiological and psychological responses, masters & Johnson have divided the female sexual response into four stages: the excitement phase, the plateau phase, the orgasmic phase, the resolution phase. The female sexual response involves physiological changes that occur: outside the genital area, in the clitoris, in the vagina. Masters & johnson-the clitoris is unique-only function is pleasure.
