Chapter 3: Displaying Data
Continuous variable:
-variable that can take on many possible values
Discrete variable:
-one that takes on only a few possible values
Rotating images study:
Independent variables:
-the trial
-angle
-sstimulus (were they the same or mirror images)
Dependent variables:
-the response (which key was pressed)
-the accuracy
-response time
Reading Graphs
1) first thing to do is identify what is plotted on each axis
2) then, identify the dependent and independent variables
3) look for patterns in the data
-in histograms, we are looking for the shape of the distribution and usually hoping to see that is
is at least highest toward the centre
