Change in western culture the industrial revolution, organized on the basis of capitalist economic theory, created structural forms of socio-economic inequality, while on the other hand, the french revolution of 1789 emphasized political equality. Simultaneously, colonialism contributed to the subjugation, exploitation, domination, and understanding of the other (non-european cultures) as inferior. They developed diverse plans to revolutionize industrialization and create a new society oriented to the common good that benefited everyone on the basis of economic, social, and political equality: women emancipation. Women gave birth to fewer children and had more independence in cities than they did in rural settlements. Women should participate as fully as men in all aspects of society and should have the rights to vote, free speech, property, and divorce. However, the french revolutionaries executed her as a counter-revolutionary. Nevertheless, some women and a few male supporters continued to promote equality for women.
